Welcome to Sledrunner Art

Derk is a self taught artist who mentors under David Jansen, of Jansen Art Studios.  After living the outdoor lifestyle for many decades, he turned to painting as a way to outwardly express his love for the natural spaces and the creatures that are found there.
After a brief introduction to working with oil paints, he then switched to acrylics and realized that their accelerated drying times worked better with his painting techniques, and the texture better reflected the personality he wanted to bring into his paintings.  Working with the Heritage Multimedia acrylic mediums available from JansenArt, drying times can be manipulated to be as quick as a standard acrylic, or prolonged for several hours with the use of different extending products.  This flexibility provides the most options for applying paint to wood panels and canvas.
We hope you enjoy browsing our gallery of work, and possibly reflect on those special memories of your own.

Nature, In Motion

Antelope sprinting across the prairie and kicking up snow, a flight of ducks flaring over a pond at sunrise, and so many other experiences are captured in the fleeting glimpses of our memory.  Birds, fish, and the other animals we encounter, are rarely sitting still when we come upon them.  Sometimes, it is those briefest moments of time that seem to last the longest in our mind; that elk with enormous antlers flashing through an opening between snow covered fir trees, or a massive covey of quail that flushes and disappears, nearly instantly, into a tangle of brush.  It is these magical moments that I strive to reflect in my art.
